Raw Tuna Tostadas
I'm apparently quickly turning into a food blog. Or, it might just be that with all my new free time, I have been cooking (and eating) far more than I should be. Either way, I made tuna tostadas and they were absolutely delicious. Some people might not be too keen on raw fish, but everyone at my house happens to love it so....here it is!
Vegan Orange and Chocolate Cookies
During a quick run to Jewel to get condensed milk for the rice pudding my mom was making that evening for a class she tutors in (though she ended up not taking it!), my brother and I found some chocolate chip cookies we could enjoy ourselves. After all, that day was national chocolate chip cookie day (so that definitely excuses our indulgence, right?!) and we had to partake in such a holiday! Organic, dairy-free ones were bought, and that got me thinking about how much better it would be to make them at home. Enter this: Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe from a site called Daily Rebecca.
Messing Around With Noodles

I respect anyone who can cook. Delicious food is always welcomed, and the people who can make it are even more so! Now, I wouldn't say that I am a great cook, because the fact of the matter is, I don't cook. But every once in a while, when the choices involve sandwiches, I have to say "enough is enough" and scavenge the kitchen for ingredients.
Monday was one of those days. Plus, I had been craving noodles for days at this point.
It's simple, really. Experimentation at it's best - or maybe worst? Simply took the entire udon noodles from the package (there's 5 people in my house, so it actually wasn't enough!) cooked them as instructed. Then in a deep pan I added olive oil, yakisoba sauce, soy sauce (only about a tablespoon of each), green onions, spinach, and chopped dried seaweed. Finally, I sprinkled sesame seeds over it. Traditional Asian? Definitely not! Good? Yup! Food doesn't always have to be "authentic" or adhere to the strict guidelines of the so-called masters to be good and enjoyable with friends and family. The point is that cooking can be fun when you mess around with it.

As the title says, I made sushi today! Thanks to the lady at Cooking With Dog (if you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it! Very entertaining and useful) I found a nice recipe. I even made a rice ball with the small amount of rice I had left over.

So I watched an interesting documentary last night Food Beware: A French Organic Revolution and I realized the importance of making things from scratch. These days, everything seems to come in a container already packaged for us, with who knows what ingredients and chemicals added for the sake of preservation. And though my family has been into organic foods for a couple years now, there are several things we were accustomed to buying already made. Some products are probably impossible for us to make ourselves, such as keeping chicken or fish--meats in general. But others, such as breads, jams, and vegetables, are certainly something that can be taken care of at home or locally.
