Is That My Face?

I may have previously mentioned that I'm not a big makeup person. Two years ago I had to buy foundation and concealer for my brother's wedding and that had been the extent of it. When I entered college I did start dabbling in liquid liner (cat eye anyone?) but nothing else.

The City I Live In

Feelings of sleepy nights and head up in the clouds. Chicago at night is both cold and dreamy, and the lights from the buildings give one a feeling of solidarity - of not being alone in its vastness. I found myself in this city, somewhere between the shores of Lake Michigan and Water Tower. The city might be going through its own period of reconstruction, and of figuring itself out. And certainly violence and fear can be found in its dark corners. But there are few of those unlit places, and with an open mind and a sense of adventure, anyone can find a bit of themselves in this city.

Personal Musings

The video above is another one of Ralph Smart's videos on YouTube. I was, admittedly, feeling relatively upset before coming across the video. A peer of mine, whom I also work with in several projects, has turned rather negative with me and I have been feeling as though there is a lot of negative sent in my direction from her. Normally it doesn't phase me much, but tonight I was finally feeling upset and frustrated. Mostly because I have a bad record with female friends turning catty and I was rather annoyed that in college I was having to deal with these problems once more.

Messing Around With Noodles

I respect anyone who can cook. Delicious food is always welcomed, and the people who can make it are even more so! Now, I wouldn't say that I am a great cook, because the fact of the matter is, I don't cook. But every once in a while, when the choices involve sandwiches, I have to say "enough is enough" and scavenge the kitchen for ingredients.

Monday was one of those days. Plus, I had been craving noodles for days at this point.
It's simple, really. Experimentation at it's best - or maybe worst? Simply took the entire udon noodles from the package (there's 5 people in my house, so it actually wasn't enough!) cooked them as instructed. Then in a deep pan I added olive oil, yakisoba sauce, soy sauce (only about a tablespoon of each), green onions, spinach, and chopped dried seaweed. Finally, I sprinkled sesame seeds over it. Traditional Asian? Definitely not! Good? Yup! Food doesn't always have to be "authentic" or adhere to the strict guidelines of the so-called masters to be good and enjoyable with friends and family. The point is that cooking can be fun when you mess around with it.
